The ITUC-Asia Pacific held a conference that counted on the participation of trade union representatives from 16 countries in the region and in which Sustainlabour was invited to take part.
This conference was a preparatory event toward Rio+20 where trade unions´ demands were explained, and information was provided on the state of the negotiations and preparations for the second Trade Union Assembly on labour and environment to be held in June in Rio.
In addition, this event served to promote a debate on green and decent jobs and environmental policies, as well as on the role of trade unions at the national level, with a presentation on behalf of the delegates from the different countries about the initiatives that governments are promoting, the existing challenges related to participation and social dialogue, and what trade unions are doing.
The conference included a session on climate change and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change process, during which participants from Fiji, Bangladesh and Nepal explained the impacts being felt as well as the social and trade union challenges that these imply.
The conference programme and Sustainlabour´s presentation are available below.
The decision was adopted in response to EU Commission consultation on unconventional fossil fuels in Europe
