Americas: New Unified ITUC Regional Organisation Founded
The new ITUC Regional Organisation for the has been created at its founding Congress in , from 27 – 29 March. The Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) has 68 affiliated organisations from 26 countries throughout the region, with a total membership of more than 50 million workers.
The founding Congress, elected Victor Baez as General Secretary, Linda Chavez-Thompson as President and Julio Roberto Gómez as Deputy President. Rafael Freire, Laerte Teixeira and Amanda Villatoro were elected as TUCA Secretaries.
The new organisation will implement an important program on environment to articulate a regional response towards a true sustainable development.
