Workers and farmers are heavily exposed to chemicals, facing them daily at the production level and also as consumers. Workers number among the victims, but are also play a part in the solution.

For this reason, Trade Unions are uniquely placed to, firstly, sensitize workers regarding the impact of industrial chemicals on occupational and environmental health, also to promote and demand programmes on chemical safety from the public and private sector, and finally to train workers to assist and monitor these measures.

Trade Unions’ involvement is not only possible and necessary but also indispensable. However, to properly face chemical risk there is a need for technical assistance, training and technical advice.

There is expertise in Trade Unions, academic institutions, among other organisations ready to share their knowledge to others. In the same way, workers and Trade Unions not always find the information and assistance needed.
