Among the variety of chemical substances, Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) pose a particularly high risk of causing adverse effects to human health and the environment.
Chemicals in the POPs group are used in agriculture and industry and some are un-intentionally produced by-products. It is widely accepted that the use of such substances cannot be considered a sustainable practice. However, for different social and economic reasons such substances are still in use and/or released into the environment.
