Sustainlabour and UNEP hand in hand
The first programme of its kind and a truly pioneer initiative, its aim was to improve the engagement of workers and trade unions in the development and implementation of environmental policy through the development of activities that promote their involvement at the international, as well as regional, national and local levels.
The programme therefore arose as a response to a two-fold necessity:
To depen in the labour dimension of the environmental policies, undertanding better what the transition should mean for the workforce
To bring workers into the demand for change, sensitazing and training workers on environmental areas

The First Phase (2007-2010) in figures:
202 trade union organizations reached through programme activities with an estimated total of 118.129.056 members – immense global networks with impressive reach and an extensive capacity for disseminating information, representing 67,12% of the total members of the ITUC
Country coverage: Beneficiaries from 87 countries – 47% of the world’s total attesting to a programme with a truly global reach
